The developers thought a lot about how to name this phantom so as it represents the screen saver exactly. Its draft name was a snivel, simply snivel. But soon it turned out that this fancy is quite mad in order to be the Space Snivel. And when looked at, everyone has no doubt: it is really a cosmic, intergalactic, cybernetic, huge Snivel.
